A few days ago, with the following statement, Rosalie Weisfeld withdrew from her campign for Hidalgo County Democratic Party Chair. While in reality, her political experience and skills make her perfect for the position, in a critical election year, Rosalie decided all of her efforts and fundraising need to be for the Democratic Party as a whole, which is what she has done best for forty years. – Michael Steenbergen, Internet Communications Director for Weisfeld Campaign
Quoting Rosalie Weiseld, March 8th:
Dear facebook friends,Over the last few days, changes in my personal family life have occurred which will limit the amount of time I will have to serve as Chair of the Hidalgo County Democratic Party. The deadline to file, change or withdraw for all positions, which will appear on this primary election ballot; is tomorrow, Friday March 9 at 6 pm at the office of the Hidalgo County Democratic Party. At this time, I plan to withdraw from the race for Democratic Chair.
I will continue to do all that I can for the Democratic party and our Democratic candidates, but I will not have the time I customarily commit to organizing the Get Out The Vote (GOTV) effort in Hidalgo County in the months leading up to the 2012 General Election. To be fair to the Democratic candidates who will depend on the Hidalgo County Democratic Party to help them win their election; they deserve a Chair who will be able to devote themselves full time to the duties and responsibilities of the party.
You know me and know that when I take on a project I give 100 %. At this time I need to give the 100% focus to my family.
I thank all the people who have supported our campaign for Democratic Chair; my family, friends and allies. I’m deeply grateful for and humbled by the support I have received countywide.
